Biography
From Coruscant to the Stars
Born on Coruscant, the gleaming capital of the Republic, Esmine Takan was raised in the towering halls of the Jedi Temple. From the moment she could hold a training saber, she was determined to become a warrior, a protector of the galaxy. Where others meditated in the gardens or studied ancient texts, Esmine thrived in the dueling rings, her determination and skill earning her the respect of her peers.
She was a Guardian in spirit and form, never shying away from the front lines. She was not reckless, but she embraced the idea that the Jedi were meant to be active defenders of peace—not just diplomats or scholars. She trained relentlessly, pushing herself past exhaustion, determined to master every form of lightsaber combat. By the time she earned her Knighthood, she had already built a reputation as a fighter who would never yield, no matter the odds.
When the Jedi announced their plan to establish an Academy on Yavin IV, Esmine was among the first to volunteer. To her, this was a chance to forge a new legacy—one that would ensure the Order’s future. She was no Master, no great philosopher, but she would do what she had always done: stand at the front, shield her fellow Jedi, and fight when necessary.
Defender of Yavin IV
Arriving at the Yavin IV Academy alongside Nagikonas Tar, Tu Ku, Siiie, and Zakan Pa, Esmine immediately took to her role as a Temple Guardian. While others focused on building the Academy’s foundations, training young initiates, or forming alliances, Esmine focused on defense. She walked the perimeter of the temple at night, mapped every possible weakness in the ruins, and trained new Jedi in the art of combat.
She was respected not only for her skill, but for her unwavering sense of duty. She led drills tirelessly, making sure the young Jedi could defend themselves if the need ever arose. Though she had a hardened exterior, her fellow Jedi knew that beneath it, Esmine cared deeply. She watched over the students as if they were her own kin, ensuring they had the strength to survive in a galaxy that was not always kind to Jedi.
Her closest bond was with Siiie, the Master Artisan of the Academy. Where Esmine saw only practical concerns—how to reinforce the temple walls, how to prepare for an attack—Siiie saw artistry. She often teased Esmine for her lack of patience, and in return, Esmine would joke that Siiie spent too much time crafting lightsabers and not enough time practicing with them. The two balanced each other, a warrior and a creator, both devoted to the Academy’s survival.
The Massassi Attack
The peace of Yavin IV would not last.
When the Massassi warriors—ancient servants of the Sith, awakened by lingering dark energies—rose from the ruins, Esmine Takan was the first to meet them in battle. It was deep into the night when the alarms sounded, and she was already moving before the first attack struck the temple walls.
Esmine never hesitated. While others scrambled to defend their positions, she rushed into the fray, her blue lightsaber cutting through the darkness like a beacon. The Massassi were brutal, towering warriors, their strength and fury unmatched, but Esmine did not retreat. She fought at the temple gates, cutting down foe after foe, buying precious time for the students to escape deeper into the ruins.
She did not fight alone. Nagikonas Tar led the Temple Guards, while Siiie held the workshop, protecting young initiates. But it was Esmine who stood at the forefront, bearing the full force of the Massassi onslaught.
She held the line until her body could give no more. Struck down by a crushing blow from a Massassi warlord, she fell at the gates she had sworn to protect. She was the first Jedi to die in the battle, the first life lost in the defense of Yavin IV.
Her sacrifice was not in vain. By the time she fell, the other Jedi had rallied, and Siiie, in her final act, ensured the survival of many younglings. The temple would not stand, but thanks to Esmine, many Jedi did.
Legacy of the First Knight
Esmine’s death marked the first great loss of the Yavin IV Academy, and her name became legend among those who survived. Nagikonas Tar honored her by placing her saber in the Hall of Memories, alongside those of the fallen. The students she trained carried her teachings forward, and even in death, her spirit guided them.
Though her time at Yavin IV was brief, Esmine Takan was the Academy’s first true defender—the first Jedi to stand and fall in its defense.
Her legacy endured, not just in the stories of those who lived, but in the very essence of what the Academy stood for: courage, duty, and the will to fight for what is right.
