Description
Shay Puth was a Jedi diplomat from Dorin, known for his wisdom, patience, and dedication to peace. Trained at the Yavin IV Academy under Master Soo Laa, he excelled in negotiation and conflict resolution, believing diplomacy to be a Jedi’s greatest weapon. Though he rarely engaged in battle, his strategic mind and calm demeanor made him invaluable in tense situations.
Alongside his close friend Marlan Saeli, he mediated disputes across the galaxy, seeking to prevent war rather than wage it. His life was tragically cut short when their shuttle was destroyed en route to peace talks, cementing his legacy as a Jedi who lived—and died—for the cause of peace.
Biography
Born on Dorin
Shay Puth entered the galaxy on the atmospheric world of Dorin, home of the Kel’dor people. Like many of his kind, he wore a breath mask and goggles, essential for survival outside Dorin's unique atmosphere. From a young age, Shay displayed an unusually calm temperament, reflective of his people's natural affinity for balance and the teachings of the Baran Do Sages, a precursor to Jedi philosophy.
When the Jedi Order recognized his Force sensitivity, he was brought to the Yavin IV Academy, where he would meet individuals who would shape his destiny.
Training Under Soo Laa
Shay was apprenticed to Soo Laa, a Consular Jedi known for her mastery of plant surge and beast control. While Soo was also training Marlan Saeli during this time, the two Padawans formed a close bond. Shay and Marlan often sparred together, complementing one another’s strengths: Marlan’s practical sense of strategy and Shay’s refined diplomacy. The trio's dynamic—Master Soo balancing the calm but ambitious Marlan and the more meditative Shay—proved invaluable in building lasting friendships between them.
As a Padawan, Shay displayed an exceptional talent for negotiation and diplomacy, often helping to defuse tense situations both in training exercises and in real missions. Soo Laa recognized early on that Shay’s path would not be that of a warrior but of a diplomat—someone who could bring peace without drawing his lightsaber.
A Jedi of Peace
Once knighted, Shay Puth devoted himself to diplomatic missions across the galaxy. His quiet, thoughtful demeanor and innate sense of fairness made him an excellent negotiator. Shay’s missions ranged from mediating disputes between merchant guilds to defusing planetary conflicts. His presence on the Jedi Council became a possibility discussed by many, though Shay himself often resisted political ambitions, believing that the work he could do in the field was more meaningful than life in the Council chambers.
Despite his pacifistic nature, Shay was no stranger to battle. He accompanied Marlan Saeli and Ryy Laa on several missions, often acting as the voice of reason. On multiple occasions, his calm approach prevented unnecessary bloodshed. Shay knew that not every conflict could end without violence, but he did everything in his power to ensure that combat was a last resort.
The Final Mission
Shay Puth’s final mission saw him once again side-by-side with his lifelong friend, Marlan Saeli. The two were en route to peace talks with a Hutt faction when their shuttle exploded under suspicious circumstances. While initially ruled an accident, many within the Order believed it was an assassination orchestrated to destabilize the peace efforts between various factions.
The deaths of Shay Puth and Marlan Saeli sent shockwaves through the Jedi Order. Their loss was deeply felt, especially by Soo Laa, who retreated further into her own meditations. Ryy Laa, Marlan’s former Master, grew colder and more distant, burdened by the loss of two Jedi she held dear. Shay’s death became a symbol of the precarious nature of peace and the sacrifices Jedi must sometimes make in its pursuit.
Legacy
Though his life was tragically cut short, Shay Puth’s legacy lived on through the students and Jedi he inspired. His belief that dialogue was the most powerful tool a Jedi could wield resonated with those who served alongside him. His death alongside Marlan Saeli became a cautionary tale—a reminder that even in peace, the shadow of conflict looms close.
Shay’s memory is honored not only for his skills as a diplomat but also for the kindness he showed to everyone he encountered. Though he may not have fought with his lightsaber often, Shay Puth’s strength lay in his ability to bring people together—a gift as rare as any in the galaxy. His name would go down in Jedi history not for the battles he fought, but for the peace he sought to protect until the very end.
