Description
Zae Soylon was a Miraluka Jedi Consular, renowned for his dedication to preserving Jedi knowledge and understanding the deeper mysteries of the Force.
As a Miraluka, Zae lacked physical sight, instead perceiving the world through the Force—a skill that gave him unique insight into the hidden aspects of both people and the ancient knowledge stored within the temple on Yavin IV. His career in the Jedi Order was characterized by humility, curiosity, and a tireless commitment to the preservation of history.
Biography
From a young age, Zae Soylon’s natural abilities led him toward the path of the Consular. Though not a warrior by nature, he displayed a deep connection to the Force, one rooted in contemplation and scholarly pursuit. As with many Miraluka Jedi, his wisdom stemmed not just from study but from an innate ability to perceive truths hidden from others—both literal and metaphorical. His understanding of the Force revolved around its more subtle aspects: balance, intuition, and harmony.
During his years of training, Zae became known for his love of ancient texts, holocrons, and Force artifacts. His calm demeanor and patient approach made him a natural fit within the Yavin IV Academy’s Lore Keepers—Jedi charged with studying, archiving, and preserving Jedi knowledge. Eventually, Zae became the lead Lore Keeper during the academy’s final years, renowned for his vast knowledge and sense of balance.
A Custodian of History
Zae’s role as lead Lore Keeper was as much about safeguarding knowledge as it was about teaching others. He spent years carefully curating the vast collections housed in the temple’s archives, which included ancient Jedi teachings, star charts, and even records of Jedi fallen to the Dark Side. For Zae, every piece of knowledge—no matter how dangerous—was worth preserving. He believed that the path forward for the Jedi could only be found by learning from the mistakes and successes of the past.
Zae’s commitment extended beyond the purely academic. He saw his work as an extension of Jedi philosophy—seeking wisdom to better serve the galaxy. Under his guidance, young Jedi were encouraged to approach the Force not just as a source of power, but as a way to understand themselves and the world around them. His teachings fostered a generation of Jedi who understood that knowledge and compassion were just as important as strength and agility.
The Fall of Yavin IV
When the Zakuul Empire launched its invasion, Zae Soylon found himself at the heart of a desperate effort to preserve the Academy’s legacy. As lead Lore Keeper, he was responsible for securing the archives during the attack. Even as the battle raged around him, Zae remained calm, guiding students and fellow Jedi through the hidden vaults and passageways beneath the temple. He knew that the knowledge stored within the Academy—much of it irreplaceable—had to survive, even if the temple itself did not.
In the chaos of the assault, Zae worked alongside Jedi like Jerris Writte and Kinaya Jikiiti to ensure the safe evacuation of younglings and students. He oversaw the transfer of several crucial holocrons and ancient texts to those fleeing the temple, entrusting them to the care of surviving Jedi who would carry the knowledge forward.
Despite the overwhelming odds, Zae maintained his composure, believing that as long as even fragments of the Academy’s teachings survived, the Jedi Order could endure.
Survival and Aftermath
After the destruction of the Yavin IV Academy, Zae Soylon became one of the few survivors tasked with rebuilding the Jedi Order. For many years, he wandered the Outer Rim, carrying with him what little remained of the Academy’s archives.
Though the loss of Yavin IV weighed heavily on him, Zae never abandoned hope. He believed that the Jedi’s purpose went beyond institutions and temples—that it lived on through every Jedi who chose to act with compassion, wisdom, and courage.
Despite his grief over the fall of Yavin IV, Zae Soylon became a guiding figure for the scattered remnants of the Jedi. In enclaves hidden across the galaxy, he shared his knowledge and helped new generations of Jedi rebuild what was lost.
